Dr. Koenigsberg went to Medical School and earned his M.D. from the Faculte Libre de Medecine in Lille, France in 1979. He was awarded the notation of Maxima Cum Laude for his dissertation entitled, "The role of the CT Scanner in the evaluation of Multiple Sclerosis." He then did his Internship at Chope Community Hospital in San Mateo, California from 1979-1980, and his Psychiatric Residency at the San Mateo County Community Hospital from 1980-1983. He also served as Chief Resident from 1982-1983.
Dr. Koenigsberg has been recently promoted to Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Teaching there since 1986, in 1989 he was awarded the recognition of "Outstanding Faculty member of the Year" by the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Koenigsberg has also received the nationally awarded Nancy Roeske Award for Outstanding Faculty Member.
Dr. Koenigsberg is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, and was Chair of the Media Relations Committee for the local North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians. He completed the Leadership Plano Program in 1990-1991, served on the board for three years and then on the Alumni board. He continues to be active in the community as a Professional Speaker, speaking to both physicians as well as the general public on a variety of Clinical topics.
